BEE’s workshop on Energy Efficiency for Paper and Packaging Industries Successfully Conducted on 21st March 2025 at Rudrapur

Rudrapur, 21st March, 2025

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, successfully conducted a workshop on “Scaling-up Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Measures Implementation” for the Paper and Packaging Industry at Hotel Rudra Continental, Rudrapur. This event was organized in collaboration with NITCON Limited and the Kumaun Garhwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI), aiming to promote energy conservation and efficiency in the Kashipur Paper Cluster.

The workshop focused on identifying and implementing energy conservation measures (ECM) to enhance industrial productivity, improve competitiveness, and reduce overall carbon emissions. Kashipur Paper Cluster is among the five selected clusters under this initiative, along with Muzaffarnagar, Vapi, Morbi, and Coimbatore/Erode.

The event officially commenced with a Welcome Address by Mr. Ashok Bansal, President, KGCCI, who emphasized the critical role of energy efficiency in the paper and packaging industries. He highlighted how energy-saving measures not only reduce production costs but also contribute to environmental sustainability.

During the workshop Mr. Kripa Shankar from BEE presented various energy efficiency initiatives for industries specially MSMEs followed by deliberation on Assistance in Deploying Energy Efficient Technologies in Industries & Establishments (ADEETIE), the recently launched interest subvention scheme of BEE wherein. As informed the scheme will be fully functional by June 2025.

Mr. Sandeep Kumar Saini, Project Officer, UREDA talked about how various renewable energy initiatives are helping booth residential and industrial consumers in adopting clean and green sources of electricity. The discussion further included the max solar PV installation capacity for industrial consumers in of net metering.

Mr. Mukesh Tyagi, Paper Sector Expert from Naini Papers Ltd. talked on various dimension of energy efficiency in paper industries. His address included both importance of technical advancement and training of workers to use latest technologies. He briefly talked about steam generation and consumption, motive loads and automation to decrease human interventions.

Mr. Vishal Singh, Product Manager, from Forbes Marshell mainly focused on Steam generation, distribution and recovery of condensate/ flash recovery through various technologies available with them. He further emphasised on the importance of monitoring which is without which will not only help in efficient utilisation of equipment but will also help in preventive maintenance.He further shared number of case studies covering various technologies of forbesmarshell and benefits accrued by the respective industries.

Mr. Yohan, Technical Director – Turbine Division of Industrial Boilers limited focused on Pressure Reducing Turbines (PRT) in place of pressure reducing valves and how it can help reduce energy cost for paper industries. Further, he deliberated on use of Reduced Derived Fuels in boilers, the challenges therein and how they can be addressed using various technologies available.

Mr. Anant Rai, Manager SIDBI presented the various schemes available with them to support implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in different domains including industries.

The interactive session allowed industry professionals to engage with experts, clarify doubts, and gain a deeper understanding of energy efficiency measures tailored for the sector. The event concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to adopt best practices in energy conservation and explore collaborative opportunities to make the industry more sustainable.
